Mexico, Today - As Roberto Garcia-Gonzales, a Mexican citizen peers through the border gates an San Ysidro, he can't bring himself but to think one thought - "Man, the Mexican food over there, really, really sucks." 

"I don't know why I keep jumping the border and working my hands to the bone every week. I spend most of my money on Mexican food that tastes like some culmination of iguana crap and garlic.  Not to mention, the water up there gives me the shits."

Garcia-Gonzales and other Mexican nationals perform important jobs in California that even working class Americans simply won't do. The problem according to them is that the U.S. is becoming increasingly bad in every way possible, and that its almost not worth it to jump the border. From another perspective, it's easy to see how someone looking at San Ysidro might have a negative perception of the U.S..
